If you are searching Playa Mia Cozumel because a 2023 blog or a stale ticket site still sells the old family park, stop. The independent Grand Beach Park shut that product around May 2025. The land is the future Royal Beach Club Cozumel, and that club is not a thing you can book for a normal 2026 port day. Here is the status, and the three living alternatives.
What Playa Mia was, and what it is not now
Playa Mia Grand Beach Park was the west-coast family club with slides, a kids area, and a cruise-line shorex footprint. Royal Caribbean bought the site and neighboring parcels for Royal Beach Club Cozumel, a large private beach-club project, not a light renovation of the old park. For sailings from about May 1, 2025, Royal's own Playa Mia shorex was pointed at a reduced stand-in often labeled Isla Mia: beach, a restaurant, a floating park, and no kids area or waterslides. That was a construction-bridge, not the old park returning. Local reporting has also covered a fight over public access to this stretch of west-coast sand. We are not your lawyer on that. We are telling you not to plan a 2026 port day as if Grand Beach Park still exists.
Status, dated, because the internet is late
Opening dates have already slipped once. Treat every future year as a target, not a ticket.

If a listing still says Playa Mia Grand Beach Park day pass with slides, it is stale. Skip it.
Do not buy a Playa Mia pass in 2026
Ticket sites are slow. Cruise apps bury the substitution note. A prepaid pass for a park that no longer sells that day is how you lose a port call standing at a construction gate. Royal Beach Club Cozumel, when it eventually opens, will be a Royal product with Royal rules, not a walk-up public club. Until the company sells that ticket for your sailing, you do not have it. For a beach-club day this year, use a club that is actually running.

Closure timing comes from Royal's own shorex substitution and passenger reports around May 2025. The late-2026 opening date is the original Cruise Critic / company talking point. The early-2028 slip is Jason Liberty on the Q1 2026 earnings call, as reported by Seatrade Cruise. The Semarnat delay is May 2026 Mexican press. We would rather be current and slightly hedged than ship a day-pass page for a park that does not sell that day.

Is Playa Mia Cozumel open?
Not as the old Grand Beach Park. That product ended around May 2025. The site is being redeveloped as Royal Beach Club Cozumel, which is not a 2026 walk-up club.
When does Royal Beach Club Cozumel open?
The first public target was December 31, 2026. Royal Caribbean's CEO later said early 2028. Semarnat also extended environmental review in May 2026. Do not treat any of those dates as a ticket you can hold.
What is Isla Mia?
A reduced stand-in some Royal guests were sent to after Playa Mia's old park stopped. Beach and a restaurant, not the slides and kids area. It is not a reason to search for a Grand Beach Park pass.
Can I still buy a Playa Mia day pass or my cruise app?
You might see leftover listings. Do not buy them. Book Paradise Beach, Mr Sanchos, or Chankanaab, which are actually operating.
What should families book instead of Playa Mia?
Paradise Beach Cozumel for a heated-pool club day, Chankanaab if the point was getting kids over reef. Both are on the same west coast as the old park.
